The Oscar nominations are in!
Such a list is never without controversy, but it’s always refreshing to see deserving films get the nod.
Leading the pack for best picture this year will be the masterpeice historical drama “Hidden Figures”, the Amy Adams led science fiction epic “Arrival, as well as “Fences,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” Hell or High Water,” “Lion,” “Manchester by the Sea,”
The nominees for best actor were Casey Affleck, Andrew Garfield, Viggo Mortensen and Denzel Washington, and Ryan Gossling
The nominees for a woman in a leading role were Ruth Negga, Isabelle Huppert, Natalie Portman and Meryl Streep and Emma Stone.
The list of supporting nominees is impressive.
On the mens side was Mahershala Ali, Jeff Bridges, Dev Patel, Lucas Hedges and Michael Shannon
The ladies meanwhile will feature Viola Davis, Naomi Harris, Nicole Kidman, Octavia Spencer and Michelle Williams
The Academy awards are not for another month or so, but already there is instense debate surrounding the nominations, and who should actually win.
Personally, I believe Hidden Figures was snubbed, as well as Star Rogue One, these awards seem to be more about names than actual art.
I also don’t believe that musicals should be included in the best picture category, it’s a different genre of film, it’s unfair to the field, it makes no sense for a move like that to walk away with 14 nominations.
Just my opinion.
