Netflix has released the trailer for the upcoming coming of age story “Barry”.

The show will follow a young Barack Obama as he attends Columbia University, and starts to take the steps that eventually lead him to the White House.

The premise of the film is terrific, and the trailer represents an authentic look into the early years of the 44th President of the United States.

Here is the plot synopsis

“A young Barack Obama, known to his friends as “Barry,” arrives in New York City in the fall of 1981 to begin his junior year at Columbia University. In a crime-ridden and racially charged environment,  Barry finds himself pulled between various social spheres and struggles to maintain a series of increasingly strained relationships with his Kansas-born mother, his estranged Kenyan father, and his classmates.

Barry is the story of a young man grappling with those same issues that his country, and arguably the world, are still coming to terms with 35 years later.

Barry is a 2016 American drama film directed by Vikram Gandhi about Barack Obama’s life at Columbia University in 1981.[1] It stars Devon Terrell, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jason Mitchell, Ashley Judd, Jenna Elfman, Ellar Coltrane, Avi Nash and Linus Roache.

It was selected to be screened in the Special Presentations section at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.[2] The film is scheduled to be released on December 16, 2016, by Netflix.
