Today show host Megyn Kelly is under fire after claiming that some women need to be fat shamed.
Kelly spoke of her own experience struggling with her body image, an eating disorder, and that sometimes a push from those around you can be a positive thing.
“Some of us want to be shamed!” Kelly said. “When I was in law school, I was gaining weight, I said to my stepfather, ‘If you see me going into that kitchen one more time, you say, ‘Where you going, fat ass?’ And it works!”
Considered out of character for a woman who prides herself on feminist based values, Kelly found herself on the receiving end of some heavy criticism.
Kelly walked back her statements Thursday on the today Show
“[Obese people] need support, they need kindness, and one thing they definitely do not need is to be body-shamed,” she said”.
NBC has not issued a statement on the incident, but rumors have circulated that they are less than pleased.
