Wanna know why Olympians bite their medals when they win?

From IJR

For the last 3 years or so, I have internally questioned why Olympians bite their medals when they win.

All of them do it, but I never understood why, and wasn’t interested enough to find out.

It sort of became part of the circus for me.

The Olympic Channel has absolved us all of research, and fair play to them.

Biting coins goes back to the industrial revolution, it was a means to determine if the metal was a forgery.

If biting the coin left teeth marks, then  it was considered a fake.

Here I was thinking that biting the coin was some millennial fad, but in reality it’s deeply rooted and tradition.

I suppose we all learn something new everyday!
