Dunkin Donuts announced that they will no longer be offering foam cups to the millions of consumers that traffic the coffee dispensary daily.
Dunkin Donuts will instead pursue a more eco-friendly approach that will remove an estimated 1 billion foam cups from the national waste management system per year.
A subtle yet brilliant move by the coffee makers, and one that will serve planet earth well.
“The paperboard used in the cups—which will come in the chain’s standard four sizes, from small to extra large—is certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Standard and is said to have heat retention properties equivalent to the current foam cup.
Dunkin’ is promising that consumers won’t need a cardboard sleeve to insulate themselves against the heat.
Fair play to Duncan Donuts, the rub however could be that the coffee cools down quicker.
Time will tell.
