Donald Glover, one of the most talented performers of his generation, rolled out his newest music video on Saturday Night Live this past week.
As luck would have it, he was also hosting the show, so all in all the man was having a pretty good night.
The song (and video) “Childish Gambino” has sent shockwaves across the industry and America as a whole, the video instigated a national debate the moment it touched the internet.
25 million views and counting on Youtube.
It has been quite sometime since a music video approached race relations, gun violence, police brutality, and general commentary regarding the state of the country to this degree.
In that regard, Mr. Glover has hit a homerun.
The video is vibrant, dark, unflinching, a merciless appraisal of where we are as a country, and where we are headed if we don’t collectively do something about it.
While not mentioning the White House, or depicting the President at any point during the video, the symbolism is omnipresent through the peice, you can almost smell the the Trump administration hovering over the production throughout it’s entire duration.
We won’t spoil it for you any further, if any of our readers have not taken the time to view this work of art, we have provided you the chance to get on board now.
